Manufacturers used to be able to put these two words-which mean a product protects against both UVA and UVB rays-on any bottle they wanted, without having to prove it. EWG representatives say the organization also chose to exclude powders and sprays because the FDA has expressed concerns about how well these filter UV rays. The EWG also chose not to endorse sprays or powders since some sunscreen ingredients, such as titanium dioxide, have been classified by the International Agency for Research on Carcinogens as possibly carcinogenic if inhaled (the risk of inhaling sunscreen goes up, of course, if you're using a sunscreen spray or powder). They also had to contain the fewest possible ingredients with toxicity concerns, such as retinyl palmitate (an ingredient that become more toxic or harmful when exposed to sunlight) and oxybenzone (a hormone disruptor). ![]() To get the EWG’s seal of approval, sunscreens had to offer solid sun protection not exceeding SPF values above “50+”(which the FDA warns can give a false sense of security and offer poor UVA protection relative to the high SPF). Released this week by the advocacy organization, the report recommends more than 100 products out of thousands currently available on store shelves. On the heels of the new rules comes an annual report from the Environmental Working Group that lists the top sunscreens of 2013. Banned are fuzzy buzzwords such as “sunblock” and “sweatproof” in favor of more accurate, research-backed terms that give consumers a clear sense of how well the product protects against UV-induced skin damage and skin cancer. Have you made your first drugstore run of the season to stock up on sunscreen? If not, you’re in for a surprise: All products claiming to shield your skin from the sun-lotions, sprays, makeup, even lip balms-must now follow new labeling rules mandated by the FDA.

If Trump does reverse some of Obama’s executive orders, he wouldn’t be the first president to undo or modify a predecessor’s orders. The next most frequent category for all three presidents relates to government agencies and employees. Obama, Bush and Bill Clinton, for instance, all used executive orders most frequently to make changes related to government commissions, boards or committees. In terms of subject matter, Obama’s executive orders generally were comparable to those of his recent predecessors, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of National Archives data. (Presidents are required to count and publish executive orders but are not obligated to release memoranda or proclamations.) This analysis focuses on executive orders alone because of data limitations for other types of executive action. Obama, for example, recently used proclamations to create new national monuments in Nevada and Utah. With Sony releasing PSVR 2 in February 2023, there’s a sense that Microsoft won't want to miss out on this emergent market by developing its own consumer-friendly headset. The Meta Quest 2 (or Oculus Quest 2) has gained ground as a wireless and self-contained headset that can still be plugged into a more powerful PC, playing games like Half-Life: Alyx. The VR gaming market may be small compared to consoles, with Sony’s PSVR having sold through just 5 million units as of January 2020 (compared to the over 110 million PS4 units sold in its lifetime), but it is nonetheless growing. It also means Meta Quest may beat PSVR 2 for one simple reason. Unfortunately, these games remain a flatscreen experience, so you can't suddenly jump into a VR mode for big hits like Forza Horizon 5.Įither way, long as you're subscribed to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, the platform's slowly expanding as time goes on. Still, Microsoft has shown interest in this space recently.ĭuring Meta Connect 2022, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella joined Mark Zuckerberg to confirm that Xbox Cloud Gaming is coming to Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro (formerly Project Cambria). LinkedIn profiles show at least 25 Microsoft mixed-reality employees left for Meta in 2021, including several multi-decade veterans. If this was the pivot though, it wouldn’t explain why it’s had trouble retaining specialist staff. That range has so far been focused on business use, including commercial contracts with the US army. The intent might be developing a more affordable consumer-friendly VR headset, rather than the pricey HoloLens. On the other hand, with a greater interest in consumer VR and the metaverse (something mentioned as part of its acquisition of Activision Blizzard for $67.4 billion), it could also be that the company is changing direction. However, it was also reported last month that Microsoft has scrapped the development of HoloLens 3, leaving its future commitment to VR in doubt. It’s not even designed to fully immerse you in virtual reality, either, as it’s a mixed-reality experience that relies heavily on AR: augmented reality. However, the latter is astonishingly expensive, with HoloLens 2 starting at $3,500, making it unviable for consumer gaming. Microsoft has also collaborated with Valve and HP in designing the HP Reverb G2 VR headset, and it also released its own mixed reality headset, the HoloLens. It might have been feasible for that technology to be implemented with VR, similar to Sony adapted its PlayStation Move controllers and the PlayStation Camera for its original PSVR headset. The Kinect made for Xbox 360 used RGB cameras and infrared detectors for motion-sensing inputs without a controller, which it also (albeit unsuccessfully) added to Xbox One. If you choose to use the Index controllers with a different system, there are clearly many options. The general rule of thumb is, if it works with the Valve tracking system, it will work with the Index controllers. In addition, the Pimax headset also utilizes the Valve tracking system, so the controllers will work for this headset as well. Some hardware is not compatible with 2.0, but in the case of the Index controllers, either will work. With the release of the Pro, they introduced the 2.0 tracking system. Since Valve developed the Vive hardware for HTC, everything Vive related is compatible with Valve tracking. The first headset to utilize the Valve tracking system was the HTC Vive. Suddenly you're on the surface of a planet rather than orbiting it, walking across an ice world where the air is plump with snow and transparent ice beasts are a constant danger. But in the third part of the series, Polaris, things get really wild. Schneider's second mission, UNN Nightwalker, is more traditional, with another spaceship infested by mutants to explore. Still, that's the way it is with mods and it would be ridiculous to expect volunteers sourced from a fan forum to be able to compete with Terri Brosius. It also evolves pretty regularly, so it's entirely possible some of the settings mentioned here may look different from what I've described or even be gone entirely at some point in the not-so-distant future. The flags system is meant for expert users and other similarly informed (and/or insane) folk who want to get an early look at advanced items. Before we spelunk any further, though, one quick word of warning: All of these settings are part of Chrome's flags system, which is a home for under-development options that are still actively being worked on and aren't technically intended for mainstream use. ![]() The downside, though, is that you have little control over the size of the path relative to the arrowhead. Using the dropdown menu furthest to the right, select one of the arrowhead designs from the list: The input field furthest to the right will be where the arrowhead is placed. Markers are what we’ll be using to create the head of the arrow, and the head of the arrow will be at the end of the path. The input field on the left allows you to place a marker at the beginning of the path, the middle input field allows you to place markers at all of the individual nodes in the path, and the input field furthest to the right will place markers at the end of the path.
